The fourth installment of the Five Nights at Freddy’s series actually the first to take place chronologically; in 1983. The game takes place in the bedroom of a child, where the player must avoid attack by nightmarish versions of the animatronics from the first and second games. It is the only game in the entire Five Nights at Freddy’s series that features no spoken dialogue. The animatronic characters resemble the four animatronics from the first game (Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy), but are monstrous and nightmarish in appearance, accordingly given the title “Nightmare”. Most of the gameplay centers around checking four positions in the bedroom: a set of doors on each side of the bedroom, a closet in front of the player, and a bed behind them. The game heavily utilizes auditory cues and sounds in the gameplay.

The second installment in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 take place in 1987, in a fictional pizzeria where the player to take on the role of a security guard who must survive the night shift at a fictional pizza restaurant without being attacked by the animatronic characters that wander through the building. The animatronics include remodeled versions of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy from the first game, as well as their old, decrepit counterparts. Two completely new characters also feature, including a puppet-like character called the Marionette (or The Puppet), and a humanoid animatronic called Balloon Boy.

Not surly known but the Five Nights at Freddy’s takes place in 1993, in a fictional family pizzeria called “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza,” where the player takes the role of a security guard who must defend themselves from the restaurant’s animatronic characters that become mobile and homicidal at night.

The player acts as a night security guard for a fictional pizza restaurant and must complete their shift from midnight to 6:00 a.m. (several minutes in real time) without being jump scared by the four animatronic characters that inhabit the facility.

 

4. Five Nights at Freddy’s 3

Release Date: March 2, 2015

Chronologically takes place thirty years after the events of the original FNAF, in a horror-themed attraction called “Fazbear’s Fright,” through which a single animatronic called “Springtrap” roam. The player takes on the role of a security guard who must defend themselves from a decrepit animatronic called Springtrap that walks the attraction.

In keeping with the first two installments, players are tasked with surviving night shifts as security guards, each lasting from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. (a few minutes of real-time). However, unlike the previous two games, only one animatronic can attack the player and end the game. Several animatronics from earlier games return as “phantoms” that cannot harm the player directly but can hinder their efforts to survive the night.

 

5. Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator

It begins as an 8-bit minigame where the player must control the titular Freddy Fazbear and distribute pizzas to several children. This minigame eventually ends in a scripted glitch. Then the game switches to a dark room where the player faces a broken version of the animatronic Circus Baby from Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location (referred to as “Scrap Baby”).

Throughout the game, the player interacts with a new cast of animatronic characters, central to which is a child-like animatronic named Circus Baby. In Sister Location, Circus Baby must give cupcakes to children and then bring an ice cream cone to a little girl, ending in the girl’s death. Completing this minigame grants access to the Night 5 secret level; a near-recreation of the gameplay in the original Five Nights at Freddy’s, bringing back survival gameplay. Completing all five nights unlocks extra features: pictures and blueprints of the game’s animatronics, their making-of, a map of the facility, and menu access to Circus Baby’s cupcake minigame.

 

7. Ultimate Custom Night

It is an ultimate FNAF mashup, featuring 50 selectable characters and custom difficulties! Set after the events of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator. The game allows the player to choose from 50 characters from all six main Five Nights at Freddy’s games and FNaF World and set their difficulty levels for the night from a minimum of “0” to a maximum of “20”. During the night, the player must keep track of several mechanics, such as doors, ventilation systems, and air duct systems, to avoid being attacked by the animatronics.

 

8. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted

On May 24, 2023, during a PlayStation Showcase, Steel Wool Studios announced a direct sequel to Help Wanted titled Help Wanted 2, scheduled for release in 2023.
