How to Watch Cloverfield Movies in Order [Chronologically and By Release Date]

Cloverfield Movies in Order: Dive deep into the mysterious Cloverfield universe from producer J.J. Abrams – consisting of three films, viral marketing websites linking the films together, and a tie-in manga to the first film titled Cloverfield/Kishin (2008), all set in a shared fictional universe referred to as the “Cloververse”. The franchise as a whole deals with creatures from other dimensions attacking Earth throughout various decades, all as a repercussion of an experiment by an astronaut team aboard the Cloverfield Station in outer space. Each film depicts the reality-altering effects of their study, which was meant to find a new energy source replacing the planet’s depleted resources, only to open portals for assault from various beasts from deep space. 

All 3 pictures are standalone films with no direct connection. To that end, Paradox is both a prequel and a sequel to the original Cloverfield. 1. The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

The film follows an international group of astronauts aboard a space station who, after using a particle accelerator to try to solve Earth’s energy crisis. Orbiting Earth on the brink of a devastating energy war, scientists prepare to test a device that could provide unlimited power… or trap them in terrifying an alternate reality and, must find a way home when the planet seemingly vanishes.

 

2. Cloverfield (2008)

From visionary producer J.J. Abrams (Lost) and director Matt Reeves comes the worldwide sensation of non-stop terror and suspense everyone is talking about. In the film, Rob’s girlfriend Beth and his pals have planned a huge surprise farewell party for him before his impending departure to Japan in honor of his recent promotion. All hell breaks loose in New York City, the Statue of Liberty is severed, and the celebrations are cut short by a tremendous explosion and the appearance of a giant scaly and gangly beast. Even as the reptile monster wreaks havoc on Manhattan, a daring run is launched to save Beth, and the entire ordeal is captured on a handheld camcorder. Finally, where did this persistent invader come from, and more importantly, is there any hope for survival? They set out on an adventure into the heart of New York City as they try to find Rob’s true love and rescue her.

 

3. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

Outside is dangerous…inside is terrifying in the heart-pounding new thriller from producer J.J. Abrams. The story follows a young woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who, after getting in a car accident, Michelle awakens to find herself in a mysterious bunker with two men named Howard and Emmett. Howard offers her a pair of crutches to help her remain mobile with her leg injury sustained from the car crash and tells her to “get good on those” before leaving the bunker. She has been given the information that there has been an alien attack and the outside world is poisoned. However, Howard and Emmett’s intentions soon become questionable and Michelle is faced with a question: Is it better in here or out there?

The Cloverfield film series includes Three (3) installments: 1) Cloverfield (2008), 2) 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016), and 3) The Cloverfield Paradox (2018), all three films shared a fictional universe referred to as the “Cloververse”.

You don’t have to watch the movies in order, but I would recommend either watching them in the order they were released or in the opposite order, i.e watching Cloverfield movies in chronological order, gives you non-stop thrilling experience of mysterious “Cloverfield universe” from producer J.J. Abrams. Luckily, chronologically and by release date are the same, but watch the Cloverfield Paradox  movie last or first, but not in between. The order in which you do these things is up to you now.
